Mooloolaba QLD
Perched atop the new 12-storey Avani Hotel in Mooloolaba, Sully’s Rooftop & Bar captures sweeping panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast. Designed by renowned architects Cottee Parker for developer KPAT, the project establishes a sophisticated rooftop destination that embraces the region’s relaxed coastal lifestyle. Interiors by Taryn Raso of Studio Raso complement the architecture with a refined hospitality experience that seamlessly connects guests to the surrounding landscape.
Located on the hotel’s rooftop level, the outdoor dining and bar area required a flexible weather protection solution capable of responding to the Sunshine Coast’s subtropical climate. The space needed to remain open and inviting during favourable conditions while providing reliable shelter from intense sun, coastal winds, and seasonal rainfall.
The design team sought a solution that would preserve uninterrupted views and maintain the open-air atmosphere that defines the rooftop experience, without compromising guest comfort or operational flexibility.
Dove Industry supplied and installed an automated retractable roof system, creating a dynamic outdoor environment that adapts effortlessly to changing weather conditions throughout the day and evening.
The retractable roof integrates seamlessly into the architectural framework, maintaining clean sightlines and preserving the visual connection to the coastline and beyond. When open, the system allows guests to enjoy natural light, sea breezes, and unobstructed views. At the touch of a button, the waterproof roof canopy extends to provide shelter from sun and rain, ensuring the venue remains functional in a wide range of weather conditions.
The completed rooftop venue delivers a versatile, all-weather destination that maximises the value of the rooftop footprint throughout the year. The retractable roof enables Sully’s Rooftop & Bar to transition seamlessly between an open-air terrace and a protected outdoor room, enhancing guest comfort while preserving the unique rooftop atmosphere.
