Lord Stanley Hotel Refurbishment

The iconic Lord Stanley Hotel has undergone a major refurbishment that respectfully bridges heritage and contemporary design. Originally built in 1890 by Walter Samuel Smith and designed by Brisbane architect Richard Gailey, the hotel has been thoughtfully reimagined under the direction of the family owned Hakfoort Group. Commissioning BSPN Architects, the project revives the building’s historic character while introducing modern amenities—including a generous new beer garden designed to celebrate Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle.

Designed for year-round operation in South-East Queensland’s subtropical climate, the Lord Stanley Hotel beer garden delivers a fully adaptable outdoor environment. An all-seasons retractable roof system was installed to deliver weather protection while preserving the ambiance of an open-air venue.
