Design Challenge

Located at Marcus Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, this coastal beach house was designed to respond to the region’s unique environmental conditions while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. With expansive glazing capturing ocean breezes and natural light, the project required a carefully considered shading strategy that could manage solar exposure without compromising views or architectural openness.

Architectural Solution

Vental External Venetian blinds were selected to provide precise control of daylight, solar heat gain, and privacy while preserving views towards the pacific ocean and surrounding landscape. Installed externally, the adjustable aluminium blades intercept solar radiation before it reaches the glass, significantly reducing glare and heat build-up inside the home.

Performance in Coastal Conditions

Vental external Venetian blinds have been manufactured in Australia for Australian conditions. Designed to withstand prolonged UV exposure, strong winds, and demanding coastal environments, the robust aluminium construction and high-quality finishes provide durability and long-term performance in marine environments.

Outcome

The integration of external Venetian blinds enhances both the environmental performance and architectural expression of the residence. The façade gains a dynamic quality as the blades adjust throughout the day in response to changing sunlight and occupant needs. The result is a refined shading solution that improves indoor comfort while preserving views, daylight, and connection to the coastal setting.
